About
Underclass is the creative studio of Jacob Wheeler specialising in music supervision, sound design, composition, and music editing for film, television, and branded content.

Working closely with directors, producers, and agencies, each project is shaped from first brief to final mix — built on collaboration, precision, and instinct. Whether it’s finding the perfect track, crafting an original score, or building an immersive sonic world, every detail is handled with care and emotion.

Underclass exists to make sound cinematic, human, and alive.

Story
It began in the folk world — born into a family where songs and stories were part of everyday life. Dragged from festival to festival as a kid, the journey started with learning what it meant to connect through sound. That grounding led to bands and orchestras, honing musicianship and building a deep respect for collaboration and craft.

After living in Manchester, the next step was Leeds College of Music studying Music Production, where the world expanded into electronic sound — nights spent at the legendary Technique at Mint Club and producing breakbeat tracks that shaped a new creative direction. That dual perspective — orchestral discipline and club culture freedom — became the foundation of an approach to sound that balances precision with instinct.

A seasoned drummer and performer, the path led across the UK and Europe, with highlights including Shepherd’s Bush Empire, the Montreux Jazz Festival, and supporting acts such as Stereophonics, The Noisettes, and Mumford & Sons. Years spent both behind the kit and behind the glass built an understanding of sound from every angle — as performer, producer, and storyteller.

Relocating to London nearly two decades ago marked the beginning of a career in music supervision, sound design, and composition — collaborating with global brands and creative agencies across film, television, and advertising. Credits include Netflix, HBOMax, BBC, Nike, Google, Amazon, and the award-winning “Nobody is Normal” for Childline, recognised for its music and sound at Creative Circle (Gold), Shark Awards Kinsale (Gold), Cannes Lions (Silver), D&AD (Shortlisted), and The One Show (Bronze).

Underclass is the expression of that journey — a studio shaped by years of sound, rhythm, and experience. It’s where cinematic precision meets cultural instinct; where truth, energy, and play come together to create something that moves.
